Teen Therapy

Teen therapy is counseling for ages 13-18 focused on the emotional, social, behavioral, and developmental challenges that come up during the teenage years. It gives teens a private, supportive space to talk about things like anxiety, depression, school stress, friendships, identity, family conflict, self-esteem, trauma, grief, ADHD, anger, social pressure, or big life changes. The therapist helps the teen understand what they’re feeling, build coping skills, communicate better, and make healthier choices.

Teen therapy often looks a little different from adult therapy because teens may not always sit down and immediately say, “Here’s what’s wrong.” A therapist might use conversation, creative activities, worksheets, skill-building, games, journaling, role-play, or family sessions depending on the teen’s personality and needs.

Parents or caregivers are usually involved to some degree, but the teen also needs privacy. A good therapist balances both: keeping caregivers informed about themes, goals, and safety concerns while giving the teen enough confidentiality to feel safe opening up.
